On October 19, 2026, the DLC asked the Copyright Office to immediately exercise direct oversight and supervision of the Mechanical Licensing Collective under 17 U.S.C. § 115(d)(12), to address a significant issue: The MLC expects to exhaust all of its available operating funds before the end of the year. We believe the Copyright Office should act immediately to ensure the MLC stays within the administrative assessment set by law, determine how the MLC ended up in this situation, and require greater transparency of the MLC’s financial situation.
